I decided to write another text today because I overlooked one big moment in history. That is attempted assassination of Adolf Hitler.
On 20 July 1944, a violent attempt was made by a group around Claus von Stauffenberg to assassinate Adolf Hitler, “Führer” of the Third Reich, inside his Wolf’s Lair field headquarters near Rastenburg, East Prussia. The primary purpose of the assassination attempt was to seize political control of Germany and its armed forces from the Nazi Party (including the SS) in order to obtain peace with the western Allies as soon as possible.
Well as you all know the attempt failed an war continued for anther year with big devastation of Germany. I read a lot of books on this theme and my conclusion is that German discipline and believe in authority was devastating for Germany. I will explain that.
The group that attempted to kill Hitler approached two leading German Field marshals Erwin Rommel and Erich von Manstein with their plan. They were aware of the situation and that Hitler is leading Germany into total destruction, but refused to help with the words German Field marshals do not raise a mutiny. Faith in authority was stronger then their common sense and the old Prussian drill was holy to them. Because of their refusal attempt to end the war failed. If they helped than the army would follow because they were very popular amongst the soldiers.
If you have your own theory please share with me :).
Because as I wrote in my text https://happendonthisday.wordpress.com/2014/07/18/historia-est-magistra-vitae/ WW2 is my field of study.
